Maine

Fantastic views of the coast, salt marshes, lighthouses and one of the most beautiful National Parks in America, Acadia. Maine has lots to offer, check it out.

On an early Friday morning in September, we had no trouble finding a parking spot in Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. It was a short walk on an elevated walkway through still thriving wildflower garden to reach the top of a hill where the lighthouses could be seen along with a picturesque coastline.

Situated in Casco Bay at the entrance to Portland Harbor, Portland Head is Maine's oldest lighthouse. Construction of this lighthouse was completed in 1791, during the time George Washington served as our President. Today the light and fog horn are still in use and guide ships into Portland Harbor's shipping channel.

Built more than a century after Portland Head, Rams Island Ledge Light keeps ship safe from a treacherous stone ledge beneath the water's surface.
