Florida Railroad Museum
A Trip Down One of Florida's Rails....
You might pass right by the nondescript field shaded by large oaks in Parrish, Florida. But if you look beyond the field, you'll spy a train track and the Florida Railroad Museum. On a random visit to the museum with our grandson, we decided to buy tickets for the 13 mile round trip ride down the old track.
On the way to the train yard in Willow, we rode in a very comfortable air conditioned car which was built in 1939 and refurbished in 1960. And on the way back, we sat in the open-air car.
The track laid between fields, orange groves, forest, homes and FPL's solar field gave us an opportunity to recoup from an earlier outing and enjoy some of Florida's beautiful scenery.
But the high point of the trip was the stop at yard in Willow. There we enjoyed a visit in the small, rustic museum with railroad memorabilia. The yard is also home to some older trains in various stages of restoration.
All in all, a great time and another gem in this beautiful state.
